Happy Holidays and Looking Ahead

by Kevin A. Switaj

It has been much, much too long since I have posted on my blog. Life has a way of getting in the way of writing. The last few months have been busy, both professionally and personally. However, as the year comes to a close I wanted to look back at 2017 and provide some hints for what’s coming in 2018.

2017 has been a great year for me. Professionally, I continue to love working at Buchanan & Edwards and we have had some great wins across the company as we position for growth in the future. On a broader front, I have had the honor of presenting at three conferences – SPAC in Atlanta (March), Pursuit Expo in Hartford (November), and two different opportunities at the 2017 Bid and Proposal Conference in New Orleans. I also had an article published in the APMP-NCA Executive Summary e-journal and developed a number of posts on this blog. I have also written my first book, The Well-Rounded Professional, which is in final edits as I write this post and will be released in January. I will have a longer blog post about that process in January.

Personally, a lot has gone as well. My family and I moved from Springfield to Annandale in the spring, and have spent much of the year making our new house a home. In November we welcomed a new family member – our puppy Gerdi (picture included). With vacations and plenty of quality family time, it has been a memorable year.

I am really excited to the challenges 2018 will provide. For those of us in the federal market there should be increasing certainty around budgets and the direction of federal spending just in time for the mid-term elections next November. There are many huge contracts from agencies across the entire Government that will be up for bid. Others have done a fantastic job outlining those opportunities, but needless to say it will be a busy year for those of us in Government contracting!

My plan in 2018 is to blog weekly (with new posts released on Tuesdays) for the first several months of the year at least. I plan to put out new installments of my “Proposal Myths” series in addition to posts on key areas of opportunity life cycle management. I hope you continue to visit and provide me feedback, either through comments here, by email, or via Twitter.

I wish you all a happy holiday season and a successful 2018!
